Charles Gibbs is an experienced Salsa, Bachata, and Cha Cha instructor and competitor with over 20 years of dance experience under his belt. Charles has a multi-dimensional background in dance, coming from decades of experience onstage and on the social dancing floor. He has been dancing in musical theater productions since high school and has appeared in a variety of wide variety of professional musical theater and opera productions since completing his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
Charles began training as a ballroom dancer after being introduced to it as part of his undergraduate studies. After studying as an amateur, Charles became a professional ballroom instructor and taught full-time for several years, where he continued training under master instructors such as Julia Ivleva, Igor Litvinov, and Eddie Ares. Charles and his students competed and won numerous awards in International Standard & Latin as well as American Smooth and Rhythm at prestigious ballroom competitions such as the Hotlanta Dance Classic, the Heritage Classic, and the United States Dance Championships. Charles most recently coached the Dancesport team at the University of Illinois from 2009-2012, where he trained dancers in individual and group settings and produced group choreography.
Charles is a seasoned Salsa and Bachata instructor as well, drawing on his extensive ballroom background in addition to his more than a decade of social dancing experience. He and his partner (and fiancee) Anastasia have competed and performed at a wide variety of national-level dance events, including the World Salsa Summit, the Montreal Salsa Convention, BachaTu (Dominican Republic) and the St. Louis Salsa Congress.
