Composer, arranger, instructor and trombonist. After witnessing a performance by his cousinCarlos Rexach with Orquesta “La Solucion”, Angel decided to pursue his musical career.
911 Mambo Orchestra plays original arrangements by Angel Melendez and the music of Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Rodriguez, Perez Prado and FANIA records.

Angel Melendez has played at the most recognized Chicago venues like: The Chicago Symphony Center, Millenium Park’s Pritzker Pavillion, Grant Park’s Petrillo Music Shell, The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, Harris Theatre for Music & Dance, U.S. Cellular Field, The Park West, The House of Blues, & Chicago’s Field Museum among many others.
Angel has been a musical director and arranger for some of the world’s most renowned Salsa artists including Danilo Perez, Jimmy Bosch, Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Luigi Texidor, Adalberto Santiago, Cheo Feliciano, The Singers of the Apollo Sound (Tito Cruz, Sammy Gonzalez & Papo Sanchez), Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, Lalo Rodriguez, Luisito Carrión, Hector Tricoche, Tito Allen & Johnny Rivera among others.
In 2004, Angel Melendez released his first full-length CD “Angel Melendez & The 911 Mambo Orchestra”, mixed and mastered by 16 Grammy award winner Jon Fausty, and produced by Andrés Meneses under the label Latin Street Music Inc. The recording has received immediate nationwide acceptance and it is currently playing in over 170 non-commercial, NPR, Jazz Week reporting and College Music Journal reporting radio stations. On Dec 7th, 2004 the debut CD was nominated to the 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards under the category of “Best Traditional Tropical” Latin Album. The CD also won the “Best Latin Album” Award in the 4th Annual Independent Music Awards 2005. In January of 2006 Mr. Angel Melendez was given the title of “Chicagoan of The Year” by Chicago Magazine together with the World Champions Chicago White Sox and a few others.
