Just Jacob‘s latest EP “Niila Eehkwa Waahi” explores universally human themes developed by Native American culture through bass music juxtaposed with house, garage, rock, r&b, tech, and dub. The album draws its title from the Miami-Illinois phrase for “I am still here.” This not only testifies to the enduring character of the Native American community against all odds, it reminds of the listener of their being and significance amidst the broader fabric of humanity over time. Each song comprising the EP is based on specific narratives from the life of the artist and the people he has met, yet also fictionalized to protect the identity of the song’s primary subject and rarified down to its most fundamental, elemental core.
